The F-22 Raptor is a fifth-generation air superiority fighter, considered by the USAF to be the fourth generation of stealth aircraft technology. It is the first operational aircraft to combine supercruise, supermaneuverability, stealth, and sensor fusion in a single weapons platform. The F-22 has truncated, diamond-like delta wings that merge into the fuselage, with four tail surfaces and leading edge root extensions that extend to the upper outside corner of the swept intakes. Flight control surfaces include leading edge flaps, flaperons, ailerons, rudders on the inclined vertical stabilizers, and fully articulating horizontal tail surfaces (stabilizers); for airbrake function, the ailerons are deflected up, the flaperons down, and the rudders outward to increase drag. The aircraft has a mid-fuselage refueling fitting, retractable tricycle landing gear, and an emergency arresting hook.
